Jour 3: Signification de mon nom commercial
Alors que j’ai officiellement créé mon entreprise en 2013, la vérité est que j’ai commencé à utiliser le nom de «Suis le fil» en 2009. Mais que signifie-t-il et pourquoi l’ai-je choisi?
À l’époque, j’étais complètement obsédée par le tricot. J’essayais de trouver un moyen de combiner mon amour pour le tricot et mon amour pour tout ce qui était médiéval, même si le tricot n’existait pas tel que nous le connaissons à l’époque médiévale. J’ai créé quelques petits modèles de sacs en utilisant le magnifique fil teint naturellement de Renaissance Dyeing et j’étais prêt à vendre les modèles en ligne, mais j’avais besoin d’un nom.
Je me suis tourné vers mes amis Katia et Kylie Mac, australienne et américaine qui vivaient à Paris à l’époque. Nous avons réfléchi pendant des heures, cherchant des citations, à la recherche de jeux de mot, facile à dire pour les anglophones et intéressant pour les français. Enfin, Katia a suggéré «Suis le fil», lisant l’intégralité du proverbe russe: «Suis le fil, tu atteindras le peloton.»
Je savais que c’était ça, dès qu’elle l’a dit. J’ai adoré l’imagerie de ramasser un fil et de le suivre pour voir où il va. Et bien que ma carrière de designer en tricot ait été de courte durée, j’ai tellement aimé le nom que je l’ai gardé au début de mon projet actuel, ravie que cela fonctionne encore avec la broderie et le macramé. Je suis certainement reconnaissant à mes amis de m’avoir aidé ce jour-là, merci, mesdames !

Day 3: Meaning of my business name
While I officially created my business in 2013, the truth is that I started using the name “Suis le fil” in 2009. But what does it mean and why did I choose it?
At the time, I was completely obsessed with knitting. I was trying to come up with a way to combine my love for knitting and my love for all things medieval, even though knitting didn’t really exist as we know it during the medieval period. I created a few small bag designs using the gorgeous naturally dyed yarn by Renaissance Dyeing and I was ready to sell the patterns online, but I needed a name.
I turned to my friends Katia and Kylie Mac, an Australian and American who lived in Paris at the time. We brainstormed for hours, looking up citations, searching for something that had some word play, easy to say for Anglophones, and clever for the French. Finally, Katia suggested “Suis le fil,” reading out the entire Russian proverb: “Suis le fil, tu atteindras le peloton.” (Follow the thread, you will find the pack.)
I knew that was it, as soon as she said it. I loved the imagery of picking up a thread and following it to see where it goes. And while my career as a knitting designer was short lived, I loved the name so much I kept it when I started my present endeavor, thrilled beyond words that it still works with both embroidery and macramé. I certainly owe a debt of gratitude to my friends for helping me out that day, thanks ladies!
