bagel and coffee

Day 21 : Something I miss

Today’s subject is very, very broad, in my opinion.

blog challenge

I mean, I’ve been living out of my home country now for very close to 15 years. There are a LOT of things I miss! And then there are things I miss from my childhood, or from specific places I lived in the United States, or places I’ve visited in Europe!

Instead of writing a full length novel on the subject, I’ll just tell you about the one thing I miss from the States, that I can’t do here: my Sunday morning routine.

bagel and coffee

On Sunday mornings, typically I woke up late. Late for me is probably 8:30 or 9:00 – I’ve never been a late sleeper. Then I threw on some clothes and jumped in the car to head to my local coffee shop. I’d always order an everything bagel with cream cheese and bacon and a Sunday newspaper. Then I would take my treats back home, brew up a pot of coffee and turn on the radio.

There used to be a popular Saturday evening radio show in America called “The Prairie Home Companion.” It imitated old-fashioned radio programs with live music, comedy sketches, poetry, interviews and other entertainment. (The original host has retired since I left, but the show continues with a new host.) My local radio station replayed the broadcast every Sunday morning.

So, my Sunday morning was often spent listening to the radio, slowing flipping through the enormous Sunday newspaper, and munching on my favorite breakfast. Very often, I’d finish flipping around the same time as the radio program ended, at noon, so I’d get up, stretch, and get on with my Sunday.

How about you? Do you have a routine from the past that you miss? Let us know in the comments!
